Maid of Honor Duties

Your duties as Maid of Honor should look something like this:

  • You will be responsible to host or co-host a wedding shower for the bride.
  • Help address any invitations wedding, bridal or bachelorette parties
  • You may be asked to help with any of the wedding arrangements, going with the bride to try on her wedding dress, visiting the venue or rehearsal dinner venue.
  • Keep a record of all the gifts received at the bridal shower and bachelorette party
  • Plan the bachelorette party with the bridesmaids, that is where FireFly comes in handy
  • Dont feel bad about asking the other bridesmaids to help out, everyone loves to help out at weddings, they will feel honored, just like you did being asked to be maid of honor.
  • Help out with the out of town guests, planning accommodation, day trips, welcome packets.
  • Wear your shoes around the house a couple of days prior to the wedding, to break them in a little bit, you will find it a lot easier to walk the day of the wedding.
  • You will be responsible to make sure that all the bridesmaids have got all their necessary wedding outfits, that they are on time for all the pre-wedding arrangements and dress fittings. Also to coordinate any transportation or accommodation requirements.
  • You will make sure all the bridesmaids have got their hair and make up done and they are carrying the correct flower bouquets.
  • You are the flower for the bee, it is your duty to be there to calm the brides nerves, make sure that she eats something, wipe those tears of joy, help her into her dress and hold her hand. You are her trusted friend, a good listener and an honest opinion.
  • Dont forget the grooms ring, whatever you do dont forget the ring, the safest place is to put it on your thumb.
  • Help arrange the bride's train and veil before the ceremony begins and just after she arrives at the altar, you will also need to help with her dress for the wedding pictures, also when visiting the bathroom. You might also need to help her bustle the train for the reception.
  • Hold the bride's wedding bouquet for the exchange of rings during the ceremony and hand it back just before the recessional.
  • You might be asked to sign the marriage license as a witness, along with the best man.
  • Help the best man and photographer co-ordinate the wedding shots
  • If the bride and groom have a receiving line for guests, you should stand next to the groom.
  • Your job now is to be the social butterfly of the party, you will assist the best man in showing guests to their tables, where to put their presents and encouraging them to sign the guest book. It is also helpful to know where the bathrooms are.
  • Collect any gift envelopes brought to the reception and keep them in a safe place.
  • If the bride and groom are making their social rounds, make sure her plate of food is kept warm or food is saved for her. Make sure she eats something during the night.
  • Put on those dancing shoes, you will be asked to dance by the best man during the formal first dance sequence just follow the lead of the best man. Along with the other groomsmen and guests throughout the night.
  • Toast the couple after the best man. (This is optional, but it is a nice touch.)
  • Keep the bride laughing. For the stressed-out bride, laughter is the key.
  • Preserve the wedding bouquet if the bride doesnt use it for the bride toss.
  • Hold onto the wedding dress, jewelry etc for the bride until she returns from her honeymoon
